Paradise Found: My First Solo Exhibition in 2027

The project Paradise Found is taking shape. New ideas are flowing, bringing fresh energy to the development of the concept, visual language, and design. I have decided that this series will be the centerpiece of my first solo exhibition in February 2027 at Pulchri Studio in The Hague. This exhibition serves as a clear milestone—a target that guides and motivates my creative process as an artist in The Hague.

From 'Another Place' to 'Paradise Found': The Question of Home

Paradise Found builds upon my previous project, Another Place. Where I previously explored the feeling of being a "stranger" and asked, "Where is home?", this new project dives deeper into what it means to truly feel at home.

What triggers this sense of belonging? Is it the soul of the land, the awakening of childhood senses, or simply the physical pull of the equator? As a artist who is born in Suriname and migrated to the Netherlands 38 years ago, I investigate in this series how memory and location converge. Standing on the boardwalk in Barbados in February 2026—the closest I’ve been to my homeland in decades—I felt an immediate, profound connection. This series seeks to uncover why.

Visual Language: The Jewelry Box Concept

Finding paradise is like discovering a hidden treasure—something to be cherished, protected, and kept close. That is why Paradise Found is modeled after a jewelry box. Deliberately sized for two hands (A5 format), the work avoids overwhelming scale in favor of intimacy. The stark, crisp white presentation strips away all distraction, ensuring the image receives undivided attention. Paradise is not just seen; it is carefully contained.

Bringing this vision to life required exceptional craftsmanship. My sincere thanks to Fotovaklab De Verbeeldingand Goedman+Ooms, whose precision in printing and custom white-box framing transformed the concept into a tangible, precious artifact. Together, we ensured every detail protects the vision within, just as a jewel box safeguards its treasure.

The first results of my visual language are already visible on the project website: www.janefotography.com/projects/paradisefound.

An Art Book as Part of the Exhibition

Naturally, a book is essential for a project like this. As a "book person," I am designing and binding the book myself—because for your own project, you can never go too far. The first editing session took place in collaboration with Monique Baan.

True to the project's vision, the accompanying publication is designed as a portable "jewelry box." Matching the A5 format of the framed works, it is crafted to be held intimately in two hands. This tangible object reinforces the core message: true richness lies not in abundance, but in small, carefully held moments.

It is wonderful to have these experts around me. Their involvement makes the development not only more professional but also more enjoyable and inspiring as we prepare for the upcoming exhibition at Pulchri Studio
